In my childhood, this was always the week of the Strawberry supper. My favourite of the many church hall suppers of my childhood. The main course was completely beside the point. For me it was all about the most amazing towering strawberry shortcake. So of course, I fell in love with this idea and rhyme come from Melissa at Mel’s Desk. As she says, it’s a perfect companion to The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear.
Five red strawberries, sweet to the core.
Bear came and ate one and then there were four.
Four red strawberries, growing near a tree.
Bear came and ate one and then there were three.
Three red strawberries, for you and you and you.
Bear came and ate one and then there were two.
Two red strawberries, sitting in the sun.
Bear came and ate one and then there was one.
One green strawberry, left all alone.
Bear came and ate it and then there were none.
