Summer Switch: From Tech Club to Tech Camp

April 5, 2012

During the school year, Kids Tech Club met once a week for six weeks. Knowledge builds from one week to the next week so it works best for the kids that don’t miss many weeks. During the summer that doesn’t seem possible with vacations and camps so we are holding it all during one week as a camp, June 18-22 from 10 am – noon. I know that for myself as a working parent such a short camp would not have fulfilled the childcare aspect of summer camp planning so I was a little worried, but so far registration has been going well which makes me happy.

Because of the extra four hours, we will try to include a field trip to the 3D printer lab. Otherwise it will be nice to have more time to work on projects like stop motion animation. We are scheduled to have updated computers and that should facilitate a lot of the activities as well.

I’d love to hear from librarians who have run camps. They could be on any topic. I’m interested in some of the extra things this may mean we need to think of (computer lab appropriate snack suggestions?). At least I won’t have to worry about lost swimsuits and sunburns like most summer camps 🙂
