Flannel Friday: Green Says Go!

by rovingfiddlehead on September 28, 2012

I like the action rhyme “Green Says Go” a lot. It’s from Toddler Storytime via Storytime Katie’s great listing of songs and rhymes. It works well for transportation-related storytimes (see Transportation Storytime (toddler) and Vehicles Storytime (preschool)) as well as colour themes.

I did it a couple of times with just the 3 coloured circles, but the transition between the colours was a little awkward so I made this double wide background with flaps. After reviewing the colours and order of traffic lights, I close the flaps and then open the flaps according to the rhyme.

Action Rhyme: “Green Says Go”
Green says, “Go!” (march quickly)
Go! Go! Go!
Yellow says, “Slow!” (march slowly)
Slow…slow…slow
And red says, “Stop!” (stop and freeze)
Go! Go! Go! (march fast)
Slow…slow…slow (march slowly)
and STOP! (stop)

This week’s roundup is hosted by Katie at Storytime Katie. You can also find past and future roundups and lots more information about Flannel Friday at the Flannel Friday website. For a visual round-up of all postings, check out Flannel Friday on Pinterest.

What a great idea to make the flaps! I made a stoplight for this rhyme, but now I’m thinking I need to make one with flaps! Thanks for sharing!
