Bunnies

With lots of hopping and good books to choose from, rabbit storytimes are great fun!

Gathering music: Fast and Slow (The rabbit and the Turtle) by Laurie Berkner and Mr. Rabbit by Ralph Covert

Opener: Fingers like to wiggle waggle

A Boy and His Bunny by Sean Bryan — anything is possible with a bunny on your head!

Fingerplay: Here is a Bunny
Here is a bunny with ears so funny (hold up index and middle fingers for ears)
And here is his hole in the ground (make a circle with the other hand)
At the first sound he hears, he pricks up his ears (extend two fingers)
And hops in the hole in the ground (fingers jump into the hole)

Muncha, muncha, muncha! by Candace Fleming. These enterprising rabbits bring spring gardening dreams crashing down to earth. The frustrated Mr. McGreeley certainly keeps the kids attention!

Action Song: Did You Ever See a Rabbit?
(Tune of “Did You Ever See a Lassie?”)
Did you ever see a rabbit?
A rabbit, a rabbit
Did you ever see a rabbit that hops so fast?
Hops this way and that way
And this way and that way
Did you ever see a rabbit that hops so fast?

… that hops so slow?
… that hops on one foot?
… that hops backward?

Little White Rabbit by Kevin Henkes. Time for a quieter story after those mischievous rabbits and all that hopping. Henkes is perfect for settling the crowd.

Fingerpuppet rhyme: Five Little Rabbits (my very first Flannel Friday post!)
Five little rabbits sitting by the door.
One hopped away, and then there were four.

Four little rabbits moved under a tree.
One hopped away, and then there were three.

Three little rabbits drinking morning dew.
One hopped away, and then there were two.

Two little rabbits resting in the sun.
One hopped away, and then there was one.

One little rabbit isn’t any fun.
He hopped away to find the others,
and then there were none.

Dinnertime by Sue Williams. Go Team Rabbit! Clever rabbits outwit a hungry fox.

Action Rhyme: Little Rabbit
I saw a little rabbit go hop, hop, hop
I told that little rabbit to stop, stop, stop
He wiggled his ears and crinkled his nose
And wiggled, wiggled, wiggled right down to his toes.

Duck! Rabbit! by Amy Krause Rosenthal. This book is so engaging. Kids are always divided about which it is and eager to share their opinions.
