Weekly Roundup: Kids Tech Sites February 5

by rovingfiddlehead on February 5, 2012

The second session of Kids Tech Club started this week and, wow! I love this part of my job. Sixteen kids are registered for this session so I was both exhausted and exhilarated after our first hour.

I think crowdsourcing is amazing. Therefore today’s inspirational link is to

QR Voice via The Daring Librarian (You just type in a short message (100 Characters) is a fun QR option. Type in a message of up to 100 characters and a robotic voice a la Siri reads your message. This is going to be a huge hit! Gwyneth also recommends the QR code reader FREE QR Code APP i-nigma (for both iPhone and Android).

Following up on another conversation on Twitter, I’m going to try to include more examples of tools in use during each weekly roundup. This week there are two: Zoom.it and PhotoPeach.

Zoom.it allows you to place a full size image on a website and then zoom in to see the details. Here’s an example using my mountain of felt candy. Hoover over the image, then click the + sign to zoom in. Drag your mouse over the image to move around. Discovered via @rmbyrne

PhotoPeach is an easy way to create photo slideshows. You can add music which I chose not to for this demo. You also have the choice of slide or spiral view. I like the spiral view. As with the Flannel Friday Animoto I made in October, flannel is the theme here. Discovered via @mrsdkrebs

  1. What a fabulous post! I am totally stealing your idea of using the talking QR codes and the PhotoPeach embed is awesome!
